🌿 Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2026 🌿
This week we celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, an opportunity for all New Zealanders to show their support for te reo Māori, an official language of Aotearoa. 🇳🇿
This year’s theme is Ake, Ake, Ake – A Forever Language, with the 2026 focus on Te Reo Towns, celebrating the communities who have kept te reo Māori alive and inviting all of Aotearoa to help it flourish into the future.
At Puketapu School, we are taking up the wero and making te reo Māori part of our everyday learning and kōrero. 💚
Throughout the week our tamariki and kaiako will be:
🌿 Beginning our mornings with Timatanga o te Rā
🌿 Learning new kupu through our weekly Te Reo lessons
🌿 Learning and practising kapa haka, waiata and haka
🌿 Enjoying Waiata Anthems in our classrooms
🌿 Reading and sharing pukapuka in te reo Māori
🌿 Exploring Māori art and traditional games
🌿 Using mau rākau, poi, tī rākau and whai with our ākonga
🌿 Exploring new resources and wero to grow our confidence in te reo Māori
🌿 And, of course, revisiting some of the amazing performances and experiences we have been part of recently!
From our classrooms and whānau, to our playground and wider community, we all have a role to play in keeping te reo Māori strong and helping it thrive for generations to come.
He reo ora, he reo kaha, he reo mō ake tonu atu. 💚
Ake, Ake, Ake – A Forever Language.
