Year 7 & 8 Interschool Sports Day

Last Thursday we travelled to Hāwera to play in interschool sports – rugby, netball and football. It was an early start, we had to wake up around 6am and be at school for the bus at 7.45am. The bus ride down was pretty boring, everyone was quiet and probably nervous for their games.

In the weeks before interschool we practised heaps during electives and even had some extra training times.

Netball
We played 5 games. We won 1, drew 1, lost 2 by just 1 point and lost 1 more. Everyone played really well and it was heaps of fun. Whaea Kerie and Miss Garcia were our coach and umpire. At the beginning of the day  we made a lolly salad which was yum and kept us going throughout the day.

Rugby
We played 5 games and won 2 of them. The vibe was really good and everyone worked hard as a team. Mr Lewis and Taani were there to help us out.

Football
We played 6 games all up, including the semi-final at the end of the day. Rugby and netball teams came to watch us which made it even more exciting. The semi-final went to a penalty shoot-out. Rangi Tau was the star – he blocked their goal and even scored one for us! Mrs Tait was our teacher at football and she was so happy we got a win at interschool. After the winning goal the rugby and netball players ran onto the field to hug everyone. It was the best moment. Now we get to go through to the final at a later date!

The bus ride home was way louder than the morning because we were so excited for the football team’s win. Everyone showed our Puketapu values and represented our school with pride.

A massive thank you to all the teachers who coached, helped and came down to support us, and also to our families who came to cheer us on.
