🌺🇹🇴 Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e Lea Faka-Tonga – Tongan Language Week 🇹🇴🌺
Did you know this week is Tongan Language Week?
Yesterday, Lo Tuipulotu (Fangupo Penisoni Lo Tuipulotu) from Room 12 looked fantastic in his cultural outfit, the Tupenu (yellow photo). Today, Lo and his brother Sione arrived at school looking sharp wearing their Kahoa (neck garland) and Ta’ovala (woven waist mat).
Room 18 have also been celebrating by creating some amazing Tongan-inspired artwork – check out their beautiful turtle designs! 🐢
Lo also came into the office to share his traditional Tongan drink ‘Otai with Mrs Pascoe – and he kindly brought some for his class too! ‘Otai is a refreshing drink made with watermelon, pineapple, mango, sugar, water and coconut. 🍉🥭🥥
Why not learn some Tongan phrases this week?
✨ Mālō e lelei – Hello
✨ Fēfē hake? – How are you?
✨ Mālō – Thank you
✨ ‘Ofa atu – Love to you
Mālō ‘aupito (thank you very much) to all who are helping us celebrate Tongan culture and language this week! ❤️
