Tena koutou nga hapori o Puketapu,
It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that on Sunday one of our staff, David Tuna, was taken to hospital and was in intensive care. Unfortunately David died last night. Our thoughts are with David's family and friends at this time.
David loved working at Puketapu School. David was an integral part of our Te Puna Ako Team working with students as a Learning Assistant. We will miss him, his sense of humour, his dress ups and the genuine love he had for our children. He had a sense of calmness and was an advocate for our kids.
This is a sad time for all of us and we all need to support each other by showing manaaki, aroha and awhi.
We love David. I know that he loved our school our community and our children.
Over the past 3 days our school and community have been providing care and support for students and staff. Staff have been monitoring well-being of students and their classes.
Reactions to grief and loss can vary. Young adolescence is a time when risk-taking can occur and this is often heightened by the impact of grief and loss. Please spend additional time with your children at this time and be aware of what they are doing when not with you.
