🌊 Sea Week at Puketapu School 🌊

Last week, our kura dived into an exciting and meaningful Sea Week, led by our new teacher in charge of sustainability, Emily Kidd. Emily organised a range of fun and engaging activities that helped our tamariki learn more about protecting and caring for our moana.

Throughout the week, the whole school got involved in learning about the ocean through creative art, discussions about sustainability, and a fun Sea Week Quiz for both juniors and seniors. It was awesome to see so many learners getting involved and showing their knowledge about our oceans.

Ka pai to our Sea Week quiz winners:

  • Ivy – Room 10

  • Hazel – Room 2

  • Aria – Room 7

  • Aaron – Room 16

  • Lucia – Room 6

  • Summer – Room 10

One of the highlights of the week was a collaborative sea-scape artwork created by our students. Once the beautiful ocean scene was complete, tamariki filled it with rubbish collected from around our kura. The artwork helped highlight an important message, how easily rubbish can end up in our oceans and the impact litter can have on our environment.

The activity was also a powerful reminder of how much litter can sometimes be found around our school grounds, and how we can all work together to reduce it.

A huge thank you to all the tamariki who joined in the activities and showed such enthusiasm for learning about our oceans and protecting our environment. And a special thank you to Whaea EmilyΒ for organising such a fantastic and inspiring week.
