📅 Parihaka Day – Remember that November 💚

For Taranaki Māori, 5 November 1881 is known as Te Rā o te PāhuaThe Day of Plunder.
This marks the invasion of Parihaka, when 1500 armed constabulary and volunteers, led by the Native Affairs Minister John Bryce, entered Parihaka and arrested its leaders, Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kākahi.

Today, many know this date as Parihaka Day — a time to remember the courage, peaceful resistance, and enduring legacy of the people of Parihaka.

🕊️ As we move through this week, let’s take the opportunity to share this important part of our local history with our tamariki. It’s a great reminder that this day is not just about Guy Fawkes, but about remembering and learning from our past.

📚 You can find a number of resources in the folder “Parihaka Day – Remember that November”, including a video link to a reading of Remember That November by Jennifer Beck and Lindy Fisher.
